Situation:
A low pressure system and its associated fronts and troughs moves onto central New Zealand today. The low moves to the east tomorrow allowing a cold southwest flow to develop. On Sunday a narrow ridge extends over the North Island, followed by an unsettled west to southwest flow. The ridge extends over the rest of the country on Monday and Tuesday.

For Lake Taupo: Today: Northerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots, rising to 30 knots gusting 40 knots in the morning. Easing to northerly 20 knots in the afternoon, and to 15 knots in the evening. Waves rising to 1.5 metres for a time. Showers, then poor visibility in rain from afternoon, possibly heavy.
Outlook:
For Lake Taupo: Saturday: Northwest 15 knots. Showers, turning to low cloud and drizzle. Sunday: Westerly 10 knots. A few showers. Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 15 knots early. Partly cloudy.
