Hawea Vercoe's headstone was unveiled before a large gathering at Te Teko at the weekend.
Yesterday marked the first anniversary of Mr Vercoe's tragic death. Hundreds turned out to his old school, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o te Rotoiti, where he was principal, to remember and honour the man who did so much for his students and his community.

Every year the staff of Rotorua Boys' High School (and a few well chosen old boys) take on the students. For the record, the teachers took out this year's tussle 19-10 - but who's counting eh?

Hundreds of residents showed their support for the Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust in the Pink Walk. The crowd gathered in front of the stage for a Zumba session to warm up before the 3.4km walk kicked off at 6pm. Pink outfits were accessorised with pink feather boas, pink wigs, wings, halos, tutus, crowns, and shoes.
