NZ First leader Winston Peters was accompanied by New Zealand First's Rotorua candidate, Fletcher Tabuteau, as he spoke to about 200 people in the City Focus yesterday. Meanwhile, outside Work and Income, Mana's Waiariki candidate, Annette Sykes, along with Sue Bradford and Grant Rogers, the abour Party's Steve Chadwick and the Green Party's Ian McLean from Tauranga, spoke to a crowd of about 40 vocal supporters and passers-by.

It may not have been Halloween yet but zombies were out in force in Rotorua at the weekend. The Zombie Walk, which raises money for the Brain Injury Association, took place in the central city on Saturday with nearly 200 people in attendance. Stranded whale refloated at Ohope

The crowd cheered as a 3-m pygmy sperm whale, found stranded on Ohope Beach about 7am today was refloated. Volunteers carried the whale off shore in a tarpaulin and it swam off at about 12.30pm.

Koriniti Marae was filled with stetsons yesterday as New Zealand's "king of rodeo'' was farewelled for the last time. Mourners came from around the country and as far away as Canada to join family and friends paying respects to Dion Church, who died of a heart attack on September 9. He was 43.

Rotorua's Kahukura Rugby Club hosted the New Zealand Parliamentary Rugby World Cup second round of matches, played yesterday. New Zealand took on South Africa, France played Argentina and the British Lions team played the Rotorua Barbarians. The New Zealand team featured Rotorua MP Todd McClay and Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell.
