<p>Harvey Gadd was inside his Reotahi home when the building gave "an almighty shake that felt like a truck had run into it."<br /><br />A massive piece of rock weighing hundreds of tonnes had fallen from the turreted top of Mt Aubrey behind the house and was plunging down the steep side of the hill toward him.</p> <p>Here are some more interesting pics</p>

Twin Coast Cycleway

<p>As many as 800 people took part in last Sunday's Mayoral Cycle Challenge from Okaihau to Kaikohe. The 13km route follows an old rail corridor and is the first section of the Twin Coast Cycleway, or Pou Herenga Tai, to near completion. Pictures by<strong> Peter de Graaf</strong>.</p>

Governor General visits Northland College

<p>Kaikohe's Northland College hosted powerful visitors recently when Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand and his wife Lady Susan came calling. They were welcomed with waiata, speeches and a rousing haka powhiri, toured the town's primary and intermediate schools, and returned to the college for lunch and to open a royal gala. The visit fulfilled a long-held promise to Northland College principal John Tapene. Peter de Graaf captured the visit.</p>

Maori cultural centre on Hihiaua peninsula

<p>Plans drawn up by one of New Zealand's most renowned architects for a Maori cultural centre on the Hihiaua peninsula in Whangarei have been released.</p> <p>The cultural centre would be a showcase of Maori excellence in arts, science and technology, based on waka building and sailing, the marine environment and the traditions of Tai Tokerau, with capacity to host major exhibitions, festivals and conferences.</p> <p>The architect is Gordon Moller, designer of the Sky Tower in Auckland.</p>

<p>The Northland Secondary Schools Indoor Bowls Champs involved more than 20 teams from four schools - Kaitaia College, Kamo High School, Whangarei Girls High School and Tikipunga High School. Kamo were the eventual winners.</p>
