About 400 people strode it out on the athletics track at Whanganui’s Cooks Gardens on Saturday. It was the Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, with entertainment and activities from 11am to 11pm. It was showtime at the racecourse over the weekend for the annual Whanganui A&P Show. Chronicle photographer Lewis Gardner took a stroll around the sideshows.
Hundreds watched as Whanganui's PS Waimarie riverboat slid back into the river down a temporary slipway built for use during her five-yearly marine survey. Marton School's 150th anniversary gala drew big crowds on Saturday with many past pupils in attendance. Some of them had attended classes when the school was also the district high school.
