The Wanganui Farriers Jumping Day is a precursor to the show season. It attracted 280 entrants, and Wanganui Chronicle photographer Rae Cliffe went down to the Racecourse to catch the action.

A young seal has returned to his favourite fishing spot on the Whanganui River. Tthe New Zealand fur pup seal, believed to be about 6-months-old, was spotted toying with a fish yesterday morning before devouring his breakfast.

Chronicle photographer Bevan Conley went to Horrocks Park at Kaiwhaiki on Saturday to capture the Counties premier and senior teams play friendly games on their home ground against Ratana. The sun shone but the crowd were well-prepared against any change in the weather, while others sat in their cars to toot their horns when their team scored.

At the top of a rise about 15km up the Whanganui River Rd``Camp Moorhouse''- army tents clustered around a hayshed on a grassy flat, was flooded with 80 searchers out to look for Brett Hall on Saturday. There were army personnel with computers, maps of the area, trucks and groups of people being ferried by an RNZAF Iroquois helicopter to another high grassy flat on Mr Hall's property, ready to start searching a 986ha area.
